This activity looks at direction and sequencing.

Objective: to introduce children to landmarks and direction.

Key vocabulary:
Landmarks - these are the play equipment which help us find our way.

Navigate - find out where to go.

Direction - work out which way to go eg Left, right, forward, backward in the park.

Equipment
You don't need equipment, but it could make it more exciting:
Paper or cardboard arrows, blu tack.

Walk around the park with your child and point out the obstacles.
Obstacles at the park could be swings, slide, seesaw These are our landmarks.

As you're walking around, talk to your child about what landmarks they'd like to visit.

Children can make up their own route and follow the sequence. This is also fun if they like being timed. If you wanted, you could attach the arrows to the play equipment or put them on the floor.

Walk around the park and point out the arrows and talk about the direction they are pointing in. The children have to go around the obstacle course following the arrows - they have to shout left, right, forward, backward to you.

Please return folder, instructions and unused items after use.
